Testing & Tagging Regulations

In New South Wales, Occupational Health and Safety regulations require electrical equipment and appliances used in a low-risk environment (offices, residential homes, etc.) to be tested and tagged at least every five years. For equipment that is used in a high-risk environment (construction sites, manufacturing plants, hospitals, etc.) testing and tagging must be done every three months.

All electrical equipment and appliances used in the workplace must be tested and tagged to ensure they are safe to use. This includes:

  • Portable electrical appliances, such as power tools, vacuum cleaners, heaters & fans
  • Electrical leads & extension cords
  • Electrical equipment used in wet areas, such as power outlets near sinks or in bathrooms
  • Stationary electrical equipment, such as computers, printers & other office equipment
  • Electrical equipment used in hazardous environments, such as construction sites or manufacturing plants
  • Any other equipment or appliances used in the workplace connected to an electrical power source
